Americana Sportfishing clients Larry Mazzeo and his kids from the Trenton NJ area are fishing for the first time in Costa Rica. The family is staying at the Los Sueños Marriott. When we were planning the four days he decided to fish, Larry said he wanted to do two things; 1) get a feel for the types of fishing and the captains here; and 2) catch a Blue Marlin.
Mission accomplished! We put him first with Captain Alex Holden on the 32ft Miss-Behav’in. The three anglers released their coveted Blue Marlin – they raised another but it didn’t bite – and 20 Sailfish on 30+ bites. They day after, they fished offshore with Captain Mitch Pierson on the 43ft Shotgun out of nearby Herradura Bay, and released another 13 Sailfish and a 250lb Blue Marlin.
The next day, they went back to Los Sueños for an inshore charter on the 28ft Wing Man with Captain Carlos Arguedas. They caught four Cubera Snapper (releasing three and keeping this one for dinner), one Amberjack, one Roosterfish, and several Mullet Snapper. Today Larry and the kids are again fishing with Alex on the Miss-Behav’in before heading home tomorrow.
Definitely not a bad trip by anyone’s standards.
Our good friend Felipe Fernández manages two excellent boats: the 31ft Good Day out of Pez Vela Marina in Quepos, and the 36ft Good Day Too out of Los Sueños. Captains Manuel Gabuardi and Esteban Marcos respectively are top-notch. On their most recent charters, Manuel released nine Sailfish on the Good Day, and Esteban six Sailfish and a Blue Marlin on the Good Day Too. You too can charter one or several of all our superb captains.
Tight lines!
